Choir
Adult Choir
The Adult Choir is a non auditioned choir that rehearses on Wednesday evenings 7:15 pm to 8:15 pm in the choir rehearsal room located behind the worship center. The choir prepares weekly service anthems for 8:15 worship on Sundays and also prepares special programs that are presented throughout the year. Past programs have included special concerts with Steve Amerson and stand alone presentations that complement the Christmas and Easter seasons. The choir also enjoys participation in ministry experiences as well as retreat and personal growth events. Singers are welcome to visit rehearsals before making a commitment to the ensemble. Youth Choir
Youth Choir at South Main is a non auditioned group, grades 7-12 that rehearse on Sunday afternoons from 4:30 – 5:30 pm. This choir prepares music for 8:15 & 10:45 worship as well as for ministry opportunities and choir trips. The choir is very involved in area ministries as well as away experiences. Past music and mission trips include Canada, Washington DC, and South Texas. Choir trips are funded with an annual auction that takes place in late March or early April each year. Singers are required to attend 70% of rehearsals and activities in order to participate in summer trips. Youth enjoy the diversity in age and music and find this time to be helpful in the journey toward spiritual and musical maturity. Children’s Choirs
Children’s Choirs for 4 year olds up through 6th grade meet on Wednesday evenings 6:15 – 7:00 pm. Children are divided into three choirs. Four and Five year olds meet in K114 under the leadership of Lisa Ford. This choir focuses on helping the children discover their voices and introduces them to the joy and excitement of singing.
The Music Makers (grades 1 & 2) meet in 154 under the leadership of Julie Madsen, this choir introduces beginning music skills and teaches the joy of singing to our God.
The South Main Singers (grades 3-6) meet in M216-M217 under the leadership of our Children’s Minister, Jennifer Evans and Minister of Music, Bobie Miller. Music reading and notation are encouraged as well as ministry opportunities to present music that is prepared in rehearsal. Careful attention is given to understanding the voice and the role that music plays in worship.
Music
Handbells
Handbells are offered for both adults and children. Bell choirs for adults are offered on Monday and Tuesday evenings as well as Tuesday mornings. Children’s handbells for Grades 3-6 are also offered on Wednesday evenings at 5:30 pm. Bell choirs are directed by music assistant, Jane Logan who oversees the program, and Tony Warner. This audition is a simple process and conducted by Mrs. Logan. The handbell rehearsals take place in Room 166.
Vocal Ensembles
Auditioned ensembles for musicians interested in a small group experience are offered for youth and adults. We offer a ladies ensemble and a men’s quartet as well as youth boys and girls ensembles. These groups prepare challenging musical arrangements and give leadership to our worship times on Sundays. These groups also participate in special events and programs outside the church. Band and Praise Team
Our band utilizes various woodwind, brass and string instruments as well as acoustic and electric guitars, keyboards and percussion. This group rehearses on Wednesday evenings 6:00 - 7:00 pm in the worship center under the leadership of Kari Mitchell. The band, along with the praise team, gives leadership to our contemporary worship experience on Sundays at 10:45. Learning
Tiny Tots and Tunes
Tiny Tots is a musical experience for infants through 3 years old and their parents or caregivers. Classes are offered on Monday or Tuesday mornings, infant through 18 months 10:00 – 10:45 and 18 months through 3 years 11:00 – 11:45. Jane Logan, our music assistant and children’s choir coordinator gives direction to this group. Classes are limited to 10 children per choir so that individual attention can be given as needed. There is a fee of $20 per child ($30 for two children) to cover CDs and materials that parents keep for musical experiences that can take place at home. Creative Arts
Puppet ministry is a non-graded group that rehearses on Tuesdays 6:30 – 8:00 in Room T235. This group shares programs throughout the year at special events here at South Main and the local community. The team known as No Strings Attached is directed by Stacy Patterson and has won several awards at yearly competitions. Vision
Vision is a non-graded sign language team led by Pam Hodson. This group gives leadership to both of our Sunday worship experiences and is also involved in periodic ministry opportunities in our community. Vision meets September through May on Tuesday evenings from 6:00 – 7:00 pm in the church parlor located behind the worship center. Senior Singers
Senior singers is a choir that ministers to senior adults and some of them are seniors themselves. The choir meets on the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays of the months at 10:30 am in the choir room behind the worship center. The fall is dedicated toward preparing a Christmas presentation suitable for ministry in area senior adult facilities and with homebound seniors. The spring is dedicated to a program of secular and sacred music that can be used in ministry opportunities and participating in associational and state music festivals offered by the Baptist General Conventions of Texas.
