Our Purpose

The Children’s Ministry at South Main is designed to:

Partner with parents

To teach kids to love the Lord with all their heart

To love their neighbor

And to begin to understand

That God has a special plan for their life.

Ministry

Sunday School

We offer age-appropriate Bible Study for all ages birth through sixth grade.  Our goal is to lay Biblical foundations in the lives of children through sound Bible teaching, teachers modeling the love of Jesus, and activities that allow children to learn in a variety of ways.  These classes are offered simultaneously to adult Bible Study classes on Sunday mornings at 9:30 am.  This provides for the entire family to have a special time of study designed specifically for them.

Children’s Choirs

Children’s Choirs for 4 year olds up through 6th grade meet on Wednesday evenings 6:15 – 7:00.

Children are divided into three choirs.

  • Four and Five year olds meet in K114 under the leadership of Lisa Ford. This choir focuses on helping the children discover their voices and introduces them to the joy and excitement of singing.
  • The Music Makers (grades 1 & 2) meet in Rm. 154 under the leadership of Julie Madsen, this choir introduces beginning music skills and teaches the joy of singing to our God.
  • The South Main Singers (grades 3-6) meet in M216-M217 under the leadership of our Children’s Minister, Jennifer Evans and Minister of Music, Bobie Miller. Music reading and notation are encouraged as well as ministry opportunities to present music that is prepared in rehearsal. Careful attention is given to understanding the voice and the role that music plays in worship.

Extended Teaching Care (ETC)

During each worship service we provide classes for our preschoolers, birth through pre-kindergarten.  This time is called Extended Teaching Care (ETC) because it is an extension of the learning time that takes place during Sunday School.  ETC is provided so that families can all enjoy their worship experience.  Children will be cared for and taught on their level and parents can participate in worship with ease, knowing their children are well-cared for, safe, and are also learning about God’s love.  Please take all preschoolers to the Preschool area where you will be directed to the perfect class for your child.

Kids Cove

Kids Cove Worship

Kids Cove is a specially designed Worship time for children Kindergarten through Third Grade that happens during our Contemporary Worship Service at 10:45 am each Sunday morning.  The children begin worship with their families and then are dismissed to Kids Cove.  The teachers meet the children at the back of the Worship Center and escort them to the Kids Cove Room, which is Room 151, located in the Children’s Wing.  During the Kids Cove time, children worship and praise through active and exciting songs, learn God’s Word through interesting story-telling techniques, and memorize scripture.  The goal of Kids Cove is to help children begin to learn that worship is something that God made them to do and it allows them to worship and learn on their own level.

Missions Education

Wednesday nights at 7:00 pm there are special opportunities for boys and girls to learn about and participate in missions.  Mission Friends is for preschoolers ages 3-6.  Girls-In-Action, or GA’s, is for girls in 1st through 6th Grades.  Royal Ambassadors, or RA’s, is for boys in 1st through 6th.  The goal is to teach children:

  • to share their faith with their friends

  • about what missionaries do around the world

  • the power of prayer for missionaries and their work

  • how they can be involved in sharing God’s love in tangible ways to our community
